PROFILE OF THE RECENT GEOMATICS CELL PROJECTS
Generation of Action Plans/Detailed Project Report for Watershed Development
By a process of extraction of contours and drainage layers from Topo Sheet and integrating
with Satellite Imageries, TIN, DEM, aspect, flow accumulation and sink are generated
in ArcGIS Hydrology Model. This forms the basis for suggesting appropriate treatment
structures for watershed development with decision rules on a very reliable and
scientific basis. Hydro-geomorphology, Soil, Land Use/Land Cover etc are also generated
from satellite imageries which give significant inputs for scientific and cost effective
watershed development Plans. |
Comprehensive District Development Plans for Ranchi District
A GIS based Model District Plan for Ranchi District has been prepared integrating
all aspects of resource base and field level database with demographic and infrastructure
information. An action oriented implementation plan is devised with this basic input
and by converging with governmental programmes, economic growth trends, opportunities
and gaps of the given region. |
Development of Customized GIS Software for Watershed Planning
GIS based customized software for watershed has been designed in collaboration with
Watershed Technology Management Institute, Pune, providing local language interface.
This software is in the process of being implemented in ten States in India . This
will enable the field functionaries involved in watershed development to automatically
estimate budgets, engineering designs and generate reports. Another advantage is
that it helps in easy monitoring and acts as a decision making tool at local level. |
GIS based Disaster Management |
A GIS based Pilot Flood Modeling for better community preparedness for the cyclone
and flood prone coastal area was developed for Vodapalem Panchayat, Machilipatnam
Mandal in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. This model enables the identification
of safe areas, routes, corridors, prone areas and also appropriate strategies for
better disaster coping and preparedness with a GIS based solution.
Preparation of Digital Databases
On the lines of National Spatial Database Infrastructure (NSDI), digital databases
are being prepared up to block level and efforts are being made to go up to village
level selectively. These digital layers are being constantly updated and used in
various decision making processes.
GIS & RS based Resource Analysis
GIS based resource analysis is being attempted using satellite imageries and various
layers of information based on which optimum resource plan and livelihood system
could be devised for sustenance and resource generation.
Tribal Atlas
The Tribal Atlas based on the demographic profile of Scheduled-V areas aim at spatial
spread and also to understand various aspects of tribal population. This will have
wide use among organizations working for tribal development. |
Change Detection in Attapadi Block , Kerala
The Change Detection studies in Attapady Block of Kerela tracks the temporal changes
in vegetation density, vegetation area and other aspects. This study has given significant
features and also helped in understanding the causative factors for landscape change
and land degradation. This system can build on metadata for future studies, planning
and decision support activities.

Village GIS Gram Panchayat GIS Package
Village GIS developed by NIRD is a customized Gram Panchayat GIS Package. This GIS
framework can be applied to Village, Block, District, State and even for National
level decision support system. The customized package has all analytical features
and can handle audio, video, photographs etc with data uploading on the screen.
The information base has all point features and cadastre with ownership and house
hold details. |
GIS Based Development Atlas |
A GIS based Development Atlas for a district has been prepared with development
indicators block wise. This will enable identifying the hot spots where development
thrust is required and also to understand the development stage and spectrum within
the district. |
