PROJECT ABSTRACT: Objectives: Attempts to contribute quantitatively to an understanding of the perceptions of consumers in general and Members in particular on qualitative aspects of consumer cooperative stores in Tamil Nadu. Assess the impact of benefits both quantitative and qualitative in nature derived by members and the extent of contribution of cooperatives for human development.
Methodology: Random sample survey of 1800 respondents, who are members and non-members utilising consumer stores was carried out.
Study Area: Tamil Nadu.
PRESENT STATUS: Completed:The major findings of the study is that members in the consumer cooperative stores attached greater importance to social values than did non-members. An effectiveness of consumer cooperative stores has been found to be moderate as seen from respondents perception scores. It is significant to note that most of non-member respondents agree that cooperate stores help them in terms price reference while making purchase from private shops.

PROJECTABSTRACT: Objectives:1)To facilitate development practitioners/thinkers to share/compare/critique actual and ground level experiences in "official" development cooperation (with the state and with northern bilateral and multilateral agencies), to better comprehend the changes in funding policies/instruments and their implications for people and for NGOs working with them; and 2)from this exercise, to develop a frame of reference for restrategising NGO/CBO responses to trends in development cooperation, to legitimise/safeguard/expand their intervention spaces, and to improve their access to (official)development funds, minimising the risks involved; 3)to generate data that could better inform on-going dialogue within German NGOs and the German Government, the German Government and southern Governments, southern Governments and NGOs - on why and how policies/instruments of official development coopertion can be made more responsive to the task of capacitating the marginalised.
B)Methodology: The study will facilitate three pre-selected NGOs (who have development cooperation with the state and with northern bilateral/multilateral official aid agencies), to document and critique their cooperation experiences and their implications for their own organisations and for the communities they work with. The NGOs identified are: Organisation for the Development of People (ODP);Agriculture Development and Training Society (ADATS); Association for Voluntary Action and Service (AVAS).

PRESENT STATUS: Completed:Major findings and conclusions:1) The PACBs play a vital role in the economy of the villages and occupy a prodominent position in the provision of all kinds of services to the rural population.2) Majority of the PACBs in the district have undertaken jewel loan business which besides helping the people, brings some profit to the banks also.3) The marketing cooperatives have to ensure substantial increase in their business in the marketing of agricultural produce, sale of articles, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs.

PROJECT ABSTRACT: Objectives: 1)To strengthen existing multipurpose,LAMPs, horticulture, dairy, and other functional cooperatives such as women, consumer, handlooms, etc. in the state. 2)To develop LAMPs as multipurpose societies to cater to overall needs of tribal community, with special reference to providing short, medium, and long term credit besides supply of inputs, consumer goods, marketing and extension facilities; and 3)to prepare vertically integrated project for the state through backward and forward linkages between the primary societies and state level federation etc.
Methodology: Both Secondary data and primary data were collected from 13 districts of Arunachal Pradesh during 1998-99. 100 primary societies comprising LAMPS, Marketing societies, fishery, dairy societies, handicraft cooperatives etc., were covered to collect necessary information. The data were analysed through tabular analysis and graphical approach.
Study Area: Arunachal Pradesh (headquarters)and all its 13 districts.
PLANNED OUTPUT: Research Report
PRESENT STATUS: Completed: In Arunachal pradesh, a state level coordination committee, project implementation agency and a project implementation team were proposed for effective monitoring and implementation of cooperative projects. Govt. released Rs.22 crores for this purpose.

To study the provisions of the Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACS) Act, and its differences with the Co-operatives Act 1964 and find out its utility to the groups specially the Women’s self help groups.2. To study the role of government and Registrar of Co-operative Societies under the MACS and the extent of operational independence provided to the societies therein, and 3. To study the working of women’s co-operative societies registered under the Act and the operational advantages derived by the societies therefrom.
METHODOLOGY: Primary data would be collected from the selected office bearers of the cooperative bank with the help of semi-structured schedule.
