OBJECTIVES: 1. To study the role of PRIs in pre disasters, during disasters and post disasters situations;2. To examine and evolve mechanism to empower PRIs and local community including the NGOs to cope up with disasters based on the recent experience of super cyclone in Orissa or earthquake in Gujarat; and 3. To suggest measures in improving capacity building of PRIs in disaster management.
METHODOLOGY: Information would be collected from the disaster affected families through group discussions and in-depth interviews.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To examine the appropriateness and adequacy of the initiatives towards restoration of the livelihood systems of the victims after super-cyclone.2. To identify and analyse the operational problems in planning and implementation of the projects for restoration of livelihood systems in the super-cyclone affected areas.3. To suggest measures for improving the efficiency of the planning and implementation mechanism at various levels.
METHODOLOGY: Information would be collected through a structured questionnaire from the beneficiaries and the functionaries associated with the planning and implementation of various development projects and restoration of livelihoods in the super cyclone affected areas.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To understand and examine the existing Process of planning and management of relief and rehabilitative operations at various levels of development administration in the cyclone prone areas; 2. To examine the relevance and adequacy of relief and rehabilitation measures in relation to the loss of human life, property and dislocation of livelihood patterns; and 3.To suggest suitable measures for improving the efficiency of planning and management at different levels.
METHODOLOGY: Primary data were collected from the victims through pre-designed questionnaire method. Secondary data were be collected from the concerned departments at various levels including panchayat raj bodies.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To study the measures initiated for rehabilitation and their relevance to the felt and articulated needs of the survivors of the earthquake in Gujarat.2. To prepare a module of psychological rehabilitation for implementation as part of rehabilitation measures pursuant to occurrence of natural calamities.

METHODOLOGY: Information was collected through informal discussions with the officials of various levels and elected representatives of local units.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To study the Institutional efforts undertaken in terms of early warning system and preparedness before the occurrence of the flood; 2. To study the nature and extent of damage, Relief and Rehabilitation measures by government and other agencies (PRIs/NGOs) with special reference to floods in West Bengal;and 3. To suggest measures to cope up with such disaster in future.
METHODOLOGY: Primary information was collected through group discussions with elected representatives, women members, other disaster affected groups and officials in charge of relief and rehabilitation measures. Secondary data were collected at village, block, district and state level.
