PROJECT ABSTRACT: Objectives: 1)To measure the extent of unemployment at the district level by age, educational level and socio-economic status; 2)To assess the type and nature of employment generated under the government schemes/programmes; 3)To identify the nature of mismatch between the employment generated and the type of employment required; 4) To suggest the nature of intervention(s)required by Government/Non government/Community to address the problem.
Methodology: Information was collected through personal interview method and the secondary sources available from various official sources like Office of the Census, Block Development Information from District Commissioner's Office, Directorate of Industries, Employment Exchanges, District Planning Office.

PROJECT ABSTRACT: Objectives: 1)To investigate the process changes in rural poverty and employment scenario over time as well as understand the current poverty and related syndrome in rural Bihar; 2)To record and evaluate people's own perceptions about the nature and extent of poverty and its causes and consequences; 3)To document and evaluate the social and institutional environment including customs and conventions which become a hindrance in the way of the progress of the poor and accordingly suggested policy and legal reforms for the poor; 4)To examine the likely impact of economic reforms on poverty and employment situation and evaluate the role of the state in the changing policy environment and suggest a suitable policy package; 5)To examine the impact of various policies including government policies on poverty alleviation and employment generation, social security, welfare etc. and to formulate a policy framework for the removal/reduction of poverty in Bihar.

PROJECT ABSTRACT: Objectives: (1) To examine whether the programme has been able to generate additional employment as envisaged; (2)To examine whether necessary infrastructure has been developed for meeting the employment objective; (3)To examine the adequacy and effectiveness of the existing administrative structure for planning implementation and monitoring of the programme; (4)To examine the adequacy of fund for implementation of the programme; (5)To evaluate whether the programme has helped for upliftment of the poor; and (6)To identify problems in implementation of the programme and suggest remedial measures to achieve the targets.
Methodology: For testing the hypothesis implicit in the aforesaid objective, both primary and secondary date were collected through the instruments at various levels. Besides formal and informal discussions were held by the field teams with the implementing agencies during the course of field investigation to ensure accuracy of the data.
Study area: 18 States, 32 Districts and 32 Blocks.
PRESENT STATUS : Completed:1) Inadequate linkage between production and sales strategies has resulted in accumulation of stocks 2) The budgetary support constituted more than 80% of resources of KVIC till 1994-95. It has come down to 35% with the introduction of MMS (Margin Money Scheme)
