NIRD - Eastern Regional Center (ERC), Patna

The need for establishing regional centres of the Institute is to cater to the region-specific
capacity building of the rural development functionaries .
In order to meet research and training requirements of the Eastern states, the Executive
Council and the General Council of the Institute had decided to establish the Eastern
Regional Centre of the NIRD at Patna and accordingly the E.R.C was inaugurated by
the Hon'ble Rural Development Minister Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on 11th October,
2008 at Patna in the presence of Hon'ble Rural Development Minister, GoB, DG, NIRD,
Principal Secretary of R.D., Panchayati Raj and many other senior officials and
dignitaries.
In the initial phase, the Eastern Regional Centre would cover three states namely,
Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The Eastern Regional Centre would focus more on
developing competencies of the rural development functionaries in the areas of Micro-Planning
, Disaster Management , Geographic Information System besides all other areas relating
to Rural Development
The centre is functioning under the charge the Director(NERC) Guwahti . Officer
on Special Officer Duty takes care of the day to day activities. Presently 3 faculty
members in the areas of Planning, Diasater management and and Information Technology
are working with this centre.
Objective of the Regional Centre
To facilitate the Rural Development initiatives with special focus on the rural
communities particularly disadvantaged sections, rural poor and rural women by enhancing
the knowledge, skill and attitude of rural development functionaries (officials
and non-officials) through long and short duration programmes/ courses/workshops/seminars/conferences/meetings
and other effective strategies |
