| The Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD) focuses mainly on policies, strategies, programmes, delivery systems and people’s participation relating to the macro-level HRD interventions, namely drinking water and sanitation, rural health care, training and capacity building, primary education, voluntary action, human development including youth, child and women empowerment. The micro-level HRD activities focus on organizational and behavioral development, stress management, group dynamics, attitude and behaviour change, creativity, innovation, motivation, mindset model, leadership, communication and performance management. These are its core areas of training, research and consultancy. |
| RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS |
| The Centre is recognized as a `Centre of Excellence in HRD Training and Research', by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UN-ESCAP). Besides Secretariats of Colombo Plan, Common wealth, CIRDAP, SAARC, World Bank, WHO and DFID, several State and Central Institutions and NGOs have recognised the center's competencies and are seeking its HRD services. |
| Prepared and produced a set of ten training guides on drinking water and sanitation for developmental staff with specific focus on the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) components. |
| Conducted impact studies and case studies on programmes of health and family welfare, drinking water, inter-sectoral coordination, sanitation, migration, NGO action, self-employment and training in different parts of the country. |
| Prepared distance learning lessons and research reports on Health, Water and Development for the WHO and many Indian Universities and development agencies. |
| Prepared and produced three Betacam-based video-films in English with focus on Management and Community Participation in Drinking Water and Sanitation in Mysore , Karnataka and Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. |
| As a National Key Resource Centre of the Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Mission (RGDWM), Department of Drinking Water Supply, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, the Centre conducts Training Courses and undertakes research studies. |
| Participatory Training modules have been prepared by the centre for wider dissemination of training methods through SIRDs. |

| PROPOSED ACTIVITIES |
| Ongoing activities include research studies, action research and training programmes in the areas of drinking water and sanitation, rural health, family welfare, participatory development through community based organisations, primary education, voluntary action, youth empowerment, stress management, entrepreneurship among women, among others. It is proposed to bring out (i) a Directory of Voluntary Organizations specialising in programming and implementation of Drinking Water, Sanitation and Rural Health Schemes (ii) a Booklet on Drinking Water and Sanitation for lay persons in 2006-07 in all the Indian languages. Also, a series of training courses aimed at developing the training delivery skills will be offered both for administrative staff and faculty members besides courses on HRD for government and non-governmental organizations. A national database and a MIS Unit on Drinking Water and Sanitation for programmes of Capacity Building , Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation are proposed. |
