NIRD North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Guwahati, Assam came into being in 1983 to orient the training and research activities of NIRD to the needs and problems of the North Eastern region of India. Now, it has a self- contained premises spread over an area of about 2.5 acres. The campus comprises the office-cum-hostel block with library, conference halls, lecture halls and a computer centre. The campus also hosts residential complex for the staff.
Since inception, NERC has been holding several need-based training programmes exclusively designed to the seven states of North-East. It has conducts training programmes, research and consultancy studies on the on-going rural development programmes, evaluation studies of projects implemented under IRDP and JRY. Some of the key research studies are on local governments, and levels of development in 65 districts of North East.
