OBJECTIVES: 1. The specific objective of the quantitative survey is to supplement the data obtained through participatory approaches, by primarily focusing upon selected causal parameters of poverty.2. To evolve a national strategy for poverty alleviation on the basis of individual Participatory Poverty Assessment (PPAs) undertaken. The NIRD will serve as an external agency and help Asian Development Bank in the review and the consolidation of individual PPA reports.3. To organize a seminar for dissemination of findings.
METHODOLOGY: Data were collected through interviews, with the help of pre-designed schedules.

l rural development programmes on the beneficiaries. It was therefore, a comprehensive study making an assessment of both employment generation and infrastructural development programmes and an attempt was made to examine the inter linkages between these programmes; 2) The focus was on the village and beneficiary level. While the impact of the components such as link roads and minor irrigation were assessed for the village as a whole as a facilitating factor for economic development, the programmes of direct poverty alleviation were assessed in terms of impact on the standard of living of the beneficiaries; 3)Taking a holistic view, the study attempted to examine the influence of social factors (social cohesion within the community)on the development of the area or the village; and 4) In the process of making a comprehensive assessment, efforts were made to find out which category of programmes were more beneficial to the rural poor.
Methodology:Information both primary and secondary is collected from 200 households in 10 villages of Ranchi and Gumla districts of Jharkhand State through personal interviews, group interviews and direct observations.
Study area: State: Jharkhand; Districts: Ranchi and Gumla; Blocks: Khunti in Ranchi District; Bano in Gumla District.

METHODOLOGY: Information would be collected from the NSSO’s 50th and 55th round household (primary) consumer expenditure data for the years 1993-94 and 1999-2000.

OBJECTIVES: 1. To review the concepts of economic reforms as understood and implemented in India;2. To analyze the regional disparities in the trends of agricultural performance and poverty in India in the post reforms period and variations in pattern if any from the pre-reforms period;3. To study the impact of economic reforms on sustainability with reference to agriculture sector in selected parts of the country, and4. To study the impact of the economic reforms on different categories of farmers and agriculture dependent poor in selected parts of the country.
METHODOLOGY: Primary Information was collected from various categories of farmers through structured questionnaire method. Secondary information was collected from various Central and State agencies, departments, and statistical organizations.
