Genesis of SIPRD :

State Institute of Panchayats and Rural Development, more famous through its acronym SIPRD, started its sojourn in 1961. The milestones are:

  • Orientation study centre under the aegis of Govt. of India - 1961.
  • Handed over to State Government - 1967.
  • Centre became State Institute of Rural development - 1988.
  • Another parallel institute "State Institute of Panchayats" for the training of Panchayat functionaries was established at Kalyani - 1991.
