Impact Assessment of Watersheds sanctioned by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, identified the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) as one of the agencies to take up Impact Assessment of watersheds sanctioned during April, 1998 to March, 2002 in 117 districts spread over in 9 states (Annexure I)

It is proposed to identify Nodal Agencies at State Level to undertake the work in the state, at the rate of five watersheds per district. The Nodal Agencies have to identify field level agencies for involving in the Impact Assessment study.

Through interactive sessions NIRD developed the necessary schedules which include

1. Rapid Reconnaissance Survey of the watershed area

2. The profile of the village with and without watershed and

3. Detailed field survey-changes due to watershed programme as compared to the state of the programme.  

The Nodal Agencies shall be responsible to collate and interpret the field level data at the state level. They shall guide the field level agencies in carrying out the survey (Second and Third schedules) and take up the Rapid Reconnaissance survey by themselves.

The Nodal Agencies include Government Institutions like those of Government Departments including ICAR, State Agricultural Universities, State Institutes of Rural Development and Non Government Agencies (With experience in such an endeavor).

The Nodal Agencies that intent to associate with the proposed Impact study may send the ‘Letter of intent’ to the following address within three weeks from the issue of this letter.
