Initiate action to establish a recognized centre for distance education with necessary personnel and hardware/software essential to take-up the courses in rural development as per norms of Distance Education Council of India;
Identify and initiate the short/long term courses in rural development and allied areas which could be undertaken via Distance/Open learning mode in consultation with experts and NIRD faculty, and by organization of workshop;

The Centre will be launching its First One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Rural Development from January, 2010. The last date to submit filled in application is November 30th 2009.

About the Programme:
The Programme will be offered in two semesters with 35 credits. The course structure is designed by experts who will be immensely beneficial to the young students for their career prospects in the fast emerging socio-economic development sector, NGOs, Corporate and rural development/agriculture sector. The programme will also be useful for serving officials of public and private sector for boosting their career prospects. The following courses are identified by the experts.

SRD 506: Stakeholders in Sustainable Rural Development (4 credits)
SRD507: Appropriate Technologies and Practises for Sustainable Development (4 credits)
SRD 508: Project: Guidelines for Formulation & Execution (7 credits)
Special Features: Printed self instructional material; Web based online Learning resources (video graphed Lectures); and proximate contact centres spread across the country.
Eligibility: A Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
